THE ROLE OF RESEARCH IN THE 21ST CENTURY UNIVERSITY
February 8, 2009
Speaker: Andrew Hamilton, Benjamin Silliman Professor of Chemistry, Immediate Past Provost of
Yale University and Vice Chancellor Elect of Oxford University (equivalent to President).
As Deputy Provost for Science & Technology (2003-2004) and Provost (2004-2008) of Yale University,
Prof. Hamilton oversaw the university’s entire research program and the acquisition of Yale’s West
Campus research facility. He is uniquely qualified to discuss the many challenges and opportunities for
research in America’s universities.
